Training is Ongoing
What does that mean exactly?
Nobody comes into foster parenting knowing everything they need to know. As you have discovered, some of it can be a little overwhelming. Learning (training) is something that must be done a little at a time. There are some things the State of Missouri requires all foster parents to learn. We call those Mandatory Trainings. After you have completed all the mandatory training-do not worry, you have two years to do it all-then you have ongoing training. The State of Missouri mandates a minimum of 15 hours of training per year for licensed foster homes. Level A foster homes require 20 hours of training per year.
These are required trainings. Some are available online and others require scheduling a class. Classes are available throughout the year but fill quickly so contact your licensing worker to get signed up as early as possible.
