Chapter 1

Growing up, Trenton was never allowed to have a voice. Speaking up in his home wasn’t an option, and over time, he learned to stay silent. But when he arrived at Good Samaritan, everything began to change. Through encouragement from staff and the support of music therapy, Trenton discovered new ways to express his thoughts and emotions. Music became his outlet—a safe space where he could finally be heard. Now in the Step Ahead program, he continues to play guitar and participate in group sessions, using music to stay grounded and confident. At school, Trenton has stepped into leadership as president of the student council and a proud member of the National Honor Society. He’s learned to stand firm in his values, even walking away from situations with his peers that didn’t feel right. As he prepares to transition to the Darr House and eventually the apartment program, Trenton carries with him the tools—and the courage—to use his voice with confidence and purpose.
